Ragnar in less than 3 months

The 2010 Washington DC Ragnar Relay is coming up in September, on the 24th and 25th. It's a relay of twelve runners, each running 3 legs of a 36 leg race, spanning close to 194 miles. We'll start running in Cumberland, Maryland, and finish at National Harbor in Washington, DC. I'm pretty excited, because it seems like something that will be pretty epic, 12 people running for 24 hours or more, and straight through, no let downs or anything, just relay running. I think it will be awesome. The tough part is the training, but then it always is. It's hard to stay motivated, to want to go out into the hot weather, but it's all about planning ahead so that I don't have to run in our hot and humid weather. I'll be running late today, hopefully while it's raining. I love the warm Virginia rain.

First 10k

Yesterday, March 27, 2010, was the Ukrops' Monument 10k. This is an annual 10k race here in Richmond that plays host to over 35,000 people. Crazy! Not only are there a ton of racers, but loads of people come out to cheer on the racers, local bands play music, and volunteers hand out drinks and food. It's a great atmosphere to race in. This was my first time doing a 10k race, and, because I failed to train properly, this was also my first time to run more than 4 miles. I planning on running with some of the deacons/scouts, but when I looked for them in the sea of humanity, I could not find them at all. I was so antsy to run, I decided to go ahead and just run. It was awesome, and as I got going I knew I was 1) going to be able to finish and 2) I knew that I wouldn't have to slow down or walk or anything. That's a good feeling to feel at the beginning of a race. Anyway, I really enjoyed the race, I finished the 6.2 miles in 58:39, which I was happy about for the not training. I would definitely like to improve that time, in tandem with my overall goal of getting more fit and shedding some pounds. If I manage to scrounge up some pictures (We pretty much forgot to take some), then I will throw them up here.
